Kgalagadi

Finally we are in Botswana….

We are already in Botswana from the 1st of June. First we tried to enter Kgalagadi from the south – South African side. But we needed to book way in advance to be allowed in the park. So we camped at the Kgalagadi lodge – 6 km before the entrance gate to try a different route the next day.

The following morning we went all the way around and stayed for one night a few kilometres before the Botswana border at the Mcarthy’s Rest gate. From here we navigated through thick sand and entered Kgalagadi at the the eastern side – Mabuasehube park. We stayed at Monamodi camp for one night and the following night a 24 km further into the park at Khiding campsite. You can’t help but feel extremely isolated. Bed time was at sunset since there are no fences in the park. My first time feeling so close to the wild.

We are now at the Okavango river lodge in Maun where we will stay for 2 nights. Made up some serious road distance from Mabuasehube park with over 800 km the last two days. Luckily we stopped over for one night at the rural town of Ghanzi where we had some nice eland steak at the restaurant of the lodge. Seems like this is the place where local afrikaans farmers hang out and party till early morning. Tomorrow we will go on a mokoro canoe ride on the okavango. Should be fun!

Will post as asap…
